Day 1  ·  Week 1 — Understanding Conviction

What Is Conviction?

"And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment."

— John 16:8

What It Means

Conviction comes from the Holy Spirit — not from shame, not from people, not from your own guilt spiral.

The word "convict" in Greek is elegcho — it means to expose, to bring to light, to correct with evidence.

Think of it like this: conviction is a spotlight, not a hammer. God is not trying to crush you. He is trying to show you something so He can fix it.

The Holy Spirit convicts. The enemy condemns. Conviction says: "This needs to change." Condemnation says: "You are too far gone."

One leads to freedom. The other leads to shame.

Today's Application

Today, when you feel that quiet nudge, pause and say: "Holy Spirit, is this You? What are You showing me?" Don't run. Just listen.

Journal

1. When you feel that inner nudge or heaviness, what is your first reaction — do you run toward God or away from Him?

2. Can you think of a time conviction led you somewhere better? What happened?

3. What is the difference between conviction and condemnation in your own words?
